Pearl Millet Khichidi
Ingredients
- 1 cup pearl millet rice
- 1/2 cup split yellow moong dal
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1 chopped carrot
- 1/2 cup peas
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 2-3 green chilies (slit)
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
- Fresh Coriander Leaves for garnishing
Instructions
Wash the pearl millet rice and moong dal thoroughly. Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes, carrots, and peas. Cook for a few minutes. Add turmeric powder and salt. Add washed pearl millet rice and moong dal. Mix well. Add water and stir. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles. Once the pressure releases, open the lid and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with curd or pickle.

Ingredients
- 1 cup pearl millet rice
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1 chopped carrot
- 1/2 cup peas
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1-inch cinnamon stick
- 2-3 green cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions
Wash the pearl millet rice thoroughly. Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, cloves, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and green cardamom. Sauté for a minute. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add chopped tomatoes, carrots, and peas. Cook for a few minutes. Add turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well. Add washed pearl millet rice and stir to combine. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the millet is tender and water is absorbed. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the millet is tender and water is absorbed. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with chutney or pickle.
